PDFCreator is an application for converting documents into Portable Document Format (PDF) format on Microsoft Windows operating systems. Once installed, it allows the user to select PDFCreator as their printer, allowing almost any application to print to PDF.[1] It is GPL-licensed free software,[1] written in Microsoft Visual Basic, and depends on a few proprietary Windows components, such as HTML Help and Windows Printer Drivers, which practically makes it only available for Microsoft Windows environments (all 32-bit MS Windows â€” 95/98/NT/2000/XP and Vista). The actual PDF generation is handled by Ghostscript. Besides being installed as a printer driver, PDFCreator can be associated with .ps files to manually convert PostScript to PDF format. The installation package includes an optional closed source browser toolbar that serves ads and monitors usage.[2] The OpenCD project chose PDFCreator as the best-of-breed free software package for creating PDF files in Windows.

TightVNC is a cross-platform open source remote desktop software application that uses and extends VNC's RFB protocol to control another computer's screen remotely. The software is free and distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License. The extensions provide for 'tight encoding', which improves performance over low bandwidth connections. TightVNC is cross-compatible with other client and server implementations of VNC; however, tight encoding is not supported by most other implementations, so it is necessary to use TightVNC at both ends to gain the full advantage of its enhancements.

aMSN is a Windows Live Messenger clone licensed under the GPL. Its main objective is to assist users who are new to the GNU/Linux operating system keep in contact with those who use the Microsoft program which is available only on Windows and Macintosh. To achieve this objective, aMSN attempts to emulate the look and feel of Windows Live Messenger, and supports many of its features. aMSN has features not present in Windows Live Messenger. Users can set alarms, are able to see others who have removed them from their contact list, and are able to open many profiles at once. It is also very customizable, with extensions and themes available at the main site. aMSN also allows functions not available in Microsoft Messenger for Mac (the Macintosh counterpart of Windows Live Messenger), such as webcam support, and the "nudge" feature. aMSN is available for any system that supports Tcl/Tk 8.4 or higher. This includes Microsoft Windows, Macintosh and any UNIX variant including Linux. Since SVN version 20070216, the default user interface has been changed to reflect more of Windows Live Messenger. This includes graphics, sounds and some icons.

Media Player Classic (MPC) is a compact media player for Microsoft Windows. The application mimics the look and feel of the old, light-weight Windows Media Player 6.4 but integrates most options and features found in modern media players. Media Player Classic was created and is currently maintained by a programmer named "Gabest". Gabest originally developed Media Player Classic as a closed-source application, but later decided to make it open source. Licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License, Media Player Classic is free software, and is hosted under the guliverkli project at SourceForge.net. The project itself is something of an umbrella organization for works by Gabest.

DC++ is a free and open-source, peer-to-peer file-sharing client that can be used to connect to the Direct Connect network or to the ADC protocol. It is developed primarily by Jacek Sieka, nicknamed arnetheduck. As of 2008, DC++ had around 90% market share of the Direct Connect community. [1] DC++ is a free and open-source alternative to the original client, NeoModus Direct Connect (NMDC); it connects to the same file-sharing network and supports the same file-sharing protocol. One of the reasons commonly attributed to the aforementioned popularity of DC++ is that it has no adware of any kind, unlike NMDC [2]. Many other clients exist for the Direct Connect network, and most of these are DC++ "mods": modified versions of DC++, based on DC++'s source code. A partial list of DC++ mods is given below. Some of these clients were developed for specialized communities (e.g. music-sharing communities), or in order to support specific experimental features, or perhaps features that have been rejected from inclusion in DC++ itself. An example of an experimental feature is hashing, which was initially implemented in BCDC++ and later adopted by DC++.

PMD is a static ruleset based Java source code analyzer that identifies potential problems like: Possible bugs - Empty try/catch/finally/switch blocks. Dead code - Unused local variables, parameters and private methods Empty if/while statements Overcomplicated expressions - Unnecessary if statements, for loops that could be while loops Suboptimal code - wasteful String/StringBuffer usage Classes with high Cyclomatic Complexity measurements. Duplicate code - Copied/pasted code can mean copied/pasted bugs, and decreases maintainability. While PMD doesn't officially stand for anything, it has several unofficial names, the most appropriate probably being Programming Mistake Detector. Typically, PMD errors are not true errors, but rather inefficient code, i.e. the application could still function properly even if they were not corrected.

Wikipedia ⁱⁱ⁾

Mumble is a free, open-source, cross-platform voice over IP application. Its primary users are gamers, and it is similar to programs such as TeamSpeak and Ventrilo. It uses a Client-server architecture where users who want to talk connect to the same server. Mumble's stated design goal is not to create the most elite gaming utility but to create the most social one. The goal is to recreate the feel and social interaction of a LAN party. As such, Mumble has a very simple administrative interface and most of the engineering effort is put into sound quality. As of 2007, no official statistics exists to verify the proportion of VoIP gamers using the different programs, but as it is new, Mumble has less market penetration than it's commercial competitors. As of version 1.1, all communication is encrypted to ensure user privacy.
